Matheson Sandy was born August 8, 1928. He is one of the
eight children of the late Lloyd Allen Sandy and the Late
Maude Davis Sandy.
for music began at a very early age after he learned to play
his Dad's harmonica when he was six years old. Since that
time he has learned to play the fiddle, mandolin, banjo,
guitar and bass fiddle. The fiddle and the guitar are his

Florida where they sang and played at Sloppy Joe's for two

Clyde Moody. He was also a guest star with Jimmy Martin,
well known bluegrass singer. Leslie has been featured on
radio programs around the country.

the Grand Ole Opry as one of his Bluegrass Boys. After
three years on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, he went to
Wilmington, North Carolina. There he established his own
television show called The Carolina Jamboree on WMFD (now
WECT). A young Charlie Daniels was a frequent guest on this

his own band along with three brothers. The Les Sandy Band,
often referred to as The Sandy Brothers Band, performed at
Fort Bragg, North Carolina for eight years playing at NCO
Clubs. During this time, he also performed at many festivals
and other events held in towns in North and South Carolina.

Leslie played the fiddle in both productions.
