In 1960, Leslie formed his own band, The Sandy Brothers. Which included Mack Sandy on the banjo, Coolidge Sandy on the rhythm guitar, Leslie Sandy on the fiddle, and Eldon Sandy on the bass and mandolin.  The brothers played at NCO Clubs at Fort Bragg, North Carolina for eight years.  During this time they also performed at many festivals and other events held in towns throughout eastern North Carolina.

As young boys growing up in Raeford, North Carolina during the Depression, the Sandy brothers, Leslie, Mack, Coolidge, and Eldon learned to entertain themselves by playing instruments they bought with money they earned working in the cotton fields of eastern North Carolina.

They began playing together professionally when they formed their own band, The Sandy Brothers.  The brothers had their own television program in Wilmington, North Carolina (on WMFD now WECT) called The Carolina Jamboree.

When The Carolina Jamboree ended, The Sandy Brothers Band performed for the next eight years from 1960-1968 three to five nights a week at NCO Clubs at Fort Bragg. North Carolina.

Coolidge, a former Seabee who served with Admiral Richard E. Byrd in Operation High Jump at the South Pole is retired and lives in Hope Mills, North Carolina.  Mack, an accomplished cabinet maker, is now deceased.  Eldon, the youngest of the brothers, works, and lives in Whiteville, North Carolina.  Leslie is retired and living in Raeford, North Carolina.  He can still be seen and heard playing with various groups throughout the Carolinas.
